Summary of the Estonian academic network in 2011

01.04.2011 EENet's subscription to GÉANT network was upgraded from 2.5 Gbps to 5 Gbps and the World Service - transit channel to other networks - from 1 Gbps to 2.5 Gbps
05.05.2011 the connection speed of PoP in Tartu, Raekoja plats 14 was upgraded from 1 to 10 Gbps
21.12.2011 the speed of the Tallinn-Kuressaare backbone was upgraded from 20 to 50 Mbps
26.12.2011 additional 10 Gbps connection between EENet and RTIX was launched in Tallinn

274 institutions with permanent connectivity
553 webpages for 519 institutions hosted in the nw.eenet.ee server
6659 e-mail accounts for 361 institutions in mail server
1246 lists for 399 different institutions in listserver
280 institutions use HAVIKE - the Virtual Environment for Education
93 webpages for learning materials in opetaja.edu.ee (former koolielu.edu.ee) server (hosted by 48 different schools)
107 schools use virtual study environment VIKO in viko.eenet.ee server
14 schools use KooliPLONE and 20 schools IVA in the zope.eenet.ee server

40 video transmission/recording services rendered
663 institutions (61%) of EENet clients responded to the EENet User Survey
In 2011, 141970 jobs ran on EENet's compute cluster with a total of 631771 compute hours used

GN3 project continued
In June 2011 the ETAIS project was launched. The aim of the project is to provide Estonian researchers a high performance computing infrastructure for large scale computations and data storage. The partners in the project are University of Tartu, EENet, Tallinn University of Technology and National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics
DC-NET project ended on 30.11.2011
The 10th computer drawing competition was organised in cooperation with the State Forest Management Centre and the Estonian Society of Foresters in the framework of The International Year of Forests. A total of 5339 pictures by 4869 authors participated in this years competition.
Popular wildlife webcamera projects continued:
- starting from 07.03.2009, the grey seal camera continued
- since 10.03.2011 white-tailed eagle
- since 19.04.2011 lesser spotted eagles
- since 21.04.2011 the black storks nest
- since 19.05.2011 bear camera in Alutaguse
- 09.-16.06.2011 queen of the night (Selenicereus grandiflorus)
- since 24.10.2011 Käsmu seashore camera
- since 11.11.2011 the wild animals feeding ground
- since 24.11.2011 winter bird feeder camera

747 academic domain names (under .edu.ee, .org.ee, .lib.ee and .vil.ee) were registered by 01.01.2012.

EENet is the registrar for 638 .ee second level domains.
