In concord with the International Astronomy Year EENet and Tartu Observatory organised a computer drawing competition "The Universe - yours to discover".
From 1. September until 15. November 4505 young artists sent more than 5200 computer drawings to the competition. The contest was held in four age-groups and on nine different astronomical subjects. The most popular theme was "Planets around a distant star".
The contest jury picked three best pictures in each age-group and 6-8 drawings were also marked. All these pictures were awarded. The best drawings were also formed into a travelling exhibition that can be seen all around Estonia in the following years.
The best artist in up to 10-year-olds was Maria Guljavina with the picture "Planets around a distant star". Among the 11-13-year-olds Helena Karu won the first prize with the picture "Planets around a distant star", between the 14-18-year olds Jelizaveta Sestakova was awarded with the picture "To Mars by 2015". Among the grown-ups, Maarja Andla was the favourite of the jury with the picture "Comets - starts with tails".
