"GEANT2 Eastern Extension", the final workshop of the Porta Optica Study project was held in Poznan on 18 April 2007. The workshop was designed for top-level managers of NRENs, the representatives of their funding bodies, national policy makers and regulators. The programme covered the technical, financial, legal and organisational aspects of fiber deployment in Eastern Europe as well as managerial and sustainability aspects of fiber network operations.
Porta Optica Study is a project co-funded by the European Commission as a Specific Support Activity, with the ultimate aim of stimulating and consolidating initiatives to ensure the successful deployment of a dark fiber-based research network in Eastern Europe, the Baltic States and Southern Caucasus. The project was launched in February 2006 and is due for completion by the end of April 2007.
