New big data cluster holds data of more than 1000 Estonian organisations
EENet launched a new big data cluster in the Estonian Information Technology College in Tallinn for holding backup data of the servers in Tartu.

Computer data of more than 1000 EENet customers is located in the servers in Tartu: this is the information required for the everyday work of Estonian reasearch institutions, universities, schools of higher and general education, theatres, museums, archives and many other academic organisations.

The need for a bigger storage evolved from the ever growing amount of data. The new cluster has 72 TB storage space, whereas more storage space can be added at any time. For building the cluster only free software was used: incl CEPH, Gentoo Linux and Debian.
